Floating Compensation AXIS-SA50
AXIS-SA50 is a compensation unit designed to offset positional and angular tolerances in assembly and joining processes. It enables not only stress-free but also truly concentric joining, even when manufacturing tolerances are present — for example during contacting or press-fitting operations
A spring-loaded centering mechanism ensures automatic alignment in the XY direction, allowing the assembly process to run reliably and without additional corrections. The module compensates for both a radial offset of ±1 mm in the XY direction and rotational deviations of ±3°, while simultaneously ensuring the reliable transmission of high tensile and compressive forces along the Z axis.
The maximum compressive force is 1000 N, while the maximum tensile force reaches 600 N. The restoring force is approximately 4 N to 7 N radially and around 0.01 Nm to 0.05 Nm rotationally. This ensures that the module automatically returns to its initial position after being subjected to a load and achieves a reset accuracy in the hundredth-micrometer range (3 µm to 13 µm, measured in sample tests), which further enhances process reliability and repeatability.
Manufactured from hard-anodized aluminum, the AXIS-SA50 is highly resistant to wear, friction, and environmental influences. With a weight of only 234 grams, it is also ideally suited for weight-sensitive applications.
With its compact design of Ø 50 mm and a height of 36 mm, the module can be integrated flexibly into gripper assemblies and joining units, making it particularly suitable for automated applications with limited installation space. Its compliant design reduces stress on adjacent components, thereby increasing process reliability and repeatability.
In this video, the AXIS-SA50 is shown in a typical installation scenario beneath a vertically guided joining unit. The animation illustrates the functional principle of the floating compensation: the compensation of positional and angular tolerances in the XY direction, as well as the automatic centering enabled by the spring-loaded support, become clearly visible. The visualization demonstrates how the module supports concentric alignment during joining — ideal for automated contacting and press-fit processes.
